The Mango Tree (Resonance Residency 2019)

During a week's residency at Opera North, classically-trained singer Keertan Kaur Rehal brings the ghazal, the traditional South Asian art-song, into the 21st century, in collaboration with performance poet Jaspreet Kaur and tabla player and poetry expert Shahbaz Hussain.

Keertan was one of five artists selected for the second Resonance residency programme at Opera North in spring 2019, each collaborating with artists from other disciplines, telling stories and pushing their work in new directions. Supported by PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Partner Network, Resonance is aimed at artists from BAME backgrounds who are based in the North of England.
